Surveillance of Toxoplasma gondii infection in recipients of thoracic solid organ transplants.

چکیده
We evaluated the frequency of seroconversion for toxoplasmosis in seronegative recipients of thoracic solid organ transplants with seronegative or seropositive donors and the efficacy of chemoprophylaxis with pyrimethamine+sulfametopirazine. One hundred and sixty one patients seronegative for toxoplasmosis were followed-up at different intervals. Six patients out of 79 R-/D- and twelve out of 82 R-/D+ seroconverted after chemoprophylaxis interruption. There was no difference between matched and mismatched recipients as to the frequency of seroconversion which therefore could not be related to donor seropositivity. Seroconversions were almost asymptomatic. All positive recipients should be tested if symptoms of infection are present.

Fatal acute respiratory distress by Toxoplasma gondii in a toxoplasma seronegative liver transplant recipient.
The risk of Toxoplasma gondii infection in solid organ transplant recipients is well known but mainly after heart transplantation. We discuss a case of acute respiratory distress caused by Toxoplasma gondii on Day 32 after liver transplantation. The reported case, which is extremely rare, emphasizes how direct examination and Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (QPCR) in broncholaveolar lava...
متن کاملToxoplasma gondii Myocarditis after Adult Heart Transplantation: Successful Prophylaxis with Pyrimethamine
Toxoplasma gondii primary infection/reactivation after solid organ transplantation is a serious complication, due to the high mortality rate following disseminated disease. We performed a retrospective study of all cases of T. gondii infections in 436 adult patients who had received an orthotopic cardiac transplant at our Institution from May 1968 to January 2011. Six patients (1.3%) developed ...
متن کاملDetection of Toxoplasma gondii from Clinical Specimens of Patients Receiving Renal Transplant Using ELISA and PCR
BACKGROUND Toxoplasma gondii is an opportunistic parasitic organism causing infection in many mammals, including immunosuppressed patients. Toxoplasmosis as an opportunistic infection is highly prevalent among patients receiving a kidney transplant. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to identify and determine the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in clinical samples collected from patient...
متن کاملFungal infections in solid-organ transplantation.
Fungal infections following solid-organ transplantation remain a major cause of morbidity and death. Their incidence ranges from 5% among recipients of kidney transplants to as high as 40% among recipients of liver transplants. Species of Candida and Aspergillus account for more than 80% of fungal episodes. Moreover, more than 80% of fungal infections occur within the first 2 months after trans...
متن کاملDetection Of Toxoplasma Gondii and Human Cytomegalovirus DNA in Blood from Transplant Recipients Using Multiplex Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction
Evidences from many studies suggested a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a valuable method for diagnosing infectious disease in the transplant recipients. We used this method for detection of Toxoplasma, gondii and human cytomegalovirus in blood specimens from patients after bone marrow or kidney transplantation. DNA of both infectious agents were detected using two separate sets of nested pr...
